Welcome to Day 2 of the Pacific Pullover Sew Along! I hope you are excited and ready to start sewing today! Just in case you are just now joining me, here is the schedule:
- Day 0 – Preparation Post – Fabric, Supplies, How this works
- Day 1 – Choose your Size and Cut out Your Pattern and Fabric
- Day 2 – You are here – Sew Pockets, Princess Seams, and Shoulder Seams
- Day 3 – Sew Hoods, Collars, or Neckbands
- Day 4 – Sew the Sleeves, Side Seams, and Hems
- Day 5 – Catch Up and Show Off What You Have Made!!
For today’s sew along tasks, we are constructing the front princess seams and then sewing the shoulder seams. This will cover steps 1 through 6 in the pattern. I have separate videos to walk you through whichever option you have decided upon for today.
Here are the links for the videos for today:
(2) Front Side Panel Pocket Video
(4) Alternative Kangaroo Pocket Video On this video I am sewing a pullover with a contrasting side panel fabric and no princess seam topstitching. I could not decide which video I liked best for the Kangaroo Pocket so I went ahead and uploaded both. The first kangaroo pocket video is in a dark navy fabric and includes the topstitching step. This second kangaroo pocket video has contrasting fabrics and does not include the topstitching step.
Sew All the Pockets
One thing that I did not cover in the videos is the scenario for someone who wants ALL THE POCKETS. You can definitely do this. Keep in mind that you will need to cut your side panel pocket piece wider on the side that is next to the front, and then the amount that you cut extra on that side will need to be turned under (wrong sides facing) and hemmed. This means that you not only are hemming the top of the pocket, but also the side that faces into the kangaroo pocket. Otherwise, you will have the raw edge of the pocket inside of your kangaroo pocket (which is ok, if that is what you like!)
Another alternative to having to hem the pocket side is to cut your side panel pocket using the kangaroo pocket piece. This would create an extra layer in your kangaroo pocket that you would baste to the side panel when you baste your pocket piece. You would also want to sew a line separating where the side panel pocket ends.
That is it for Day 2!
After you finish constructing your princess seams and sewing your shoulder seams, you are finished with Day 2! Tomorrow will be much more involved, especially if you have chosen a zipper option in the pattern. So relax because tomorrow I have much more for you to do 🙂
Thanks for sewing with me!! I will see you again tomorrow for Day 3! Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
