Yay!!! Day 1 is here! I am so excited that you have joined me for the FIRST day in my FIRST sew along! We will be sewing the Greenstyle Pacific Pullover together over the next 5 days. Each day will have it’s own task, videos, and instructions. Here is the schedule:

Day 0 – Preparation Post – Fabric, Supplies, How this works
Day 1 – You are HERE – Cut out Your Pattern and Fabric
Day 2 – Sew Pockets, Princess Seams, and Shoulder Seams
Day 3 – Sew Hoods, Collars, or Neckbands
Day 4 – Sew the Sleeves, Side Seams, and Hems
Day 5 – Catch Up and Show Off What You Have Made!!

You can watch the video for today HERE. On this video, I say hello! I also show you the pieces I have cut out for my navy blue pullover as well as talk about the supplies that you need. Keep reading, and I will give you the three steps for today below.

(1) Choose Your Size

Before you print your pattern, you will want to select the size that corresponds with your measurements. Do not go by your store bought clothes sizes, but measure yourself (and get up to date measurements!). If your bust falls into a different measurement than your waist or hips, you will want to print both sizes by using layers and draw a smooth line between the two sizes.

Just in case you are wondering what it looks like to size up, I have a graphic for you. When I initially tested the Pacific Pullover, I was a size XS at the time. I had just had a baby 3 months before testing and still was not quite back to my normal weight. I still wear the pullovers that I made in testing a lot, but when I made pullovers for the sew along, I reprinted an XXS based on my current measurements.

This is how my red XS testing version (on the left) fits me now vs. how my current size, the XXS purple (on the right) fits. This will give you a good idea of what the ease is like in the pattern and what it will look like if you size up. Even though the red pullover is a size up from my current measurements, the arms won’t be that loose if you size up because it was an earlier testing version where the arms were slimmed slightly after I made this one.

(2) Make Length Adjustments

Now that you have chosen your size and printed, make your regular height adjustments by adding or subtracting length at the lengthen/shorten line on the pattern. You will want to make the same length adjustments on the front, front side, and back pattern pieces. Also, Greenstyle drafts for an 8 inch side waist. The side waist is measured from the top of the armsyce to the natural waist. Mine is 8 inches for reference.

You also can add or remove length based on personal preference. I removed 4 inches of length on the white/black pullover that I made just because I wanted a more cropped version. The midnight blue Under Armour Fleece Pullover that I made is the banded length option, and I made it exactly to the pattern without removing any length

Also, keep in mind that the hemmed version will be shorter than the banded version. I did not remove any length from my grey Polartec fleece pullover that I made using the hemmed cutline, and you can see that it lands shorter on me than the midnight Pullover.

(3) Cut Fabric

Now, it is time to cut your fabric! Pay attention to grainlines and make sure that the fabric you are using has the required stretch for the pattern (at least 50% both horizontally and vertically). Also, don’t forget to mark notches, especially if you are doing the Kangaroo Pocket version.

Once you have all your pieces cut out for the option(s) you have selected, then you are finished with your Day 1 tasks.

Thanks for sewing with me! I will see you back for Day 2 tomorrow!

Hi, will this video be of assistance if all I want to do is make the tank without zipper?

Will you be enlarging sizing on the Pacific Pullover? I need a 49″waist, 53″ bust.

    Sharon Aguilar · January 19, 2021 at 6:51 pm

Yes, it is being updated! The update testing is scheduled for the beginning of February. It will then get it in line with the new size chart, which goes up to a 62 inch bust.

Thank you for thinking of the Curvy Girls with your sizing! Bless You.

Thankyou. That is helpful. No, I am treating this as my wearable muslin.

Sharon Aguilar · April 23, 2019 at 2:31 pm

Definitely! Do your usual adjustments. You will get a much better fit. Have you made the green tee before?

As I'm an F cup (in RTW) I normally choose my bust size by my above bust measurement and do an FBA. When I don't the upper bodice across the chest is too large, and there is excess length on the side seam, and it bags under the bust. Being able to improve fit like this is major reason for sewing.
Although my full bust, waist and hips fall squarely in M, I doubt this will reflect my chest frame size (my above bust is XS). I am also petite (5'2" & short-waisted), and have large biceps. Should I do my usual pattern adjustments?
