Welcome to the Greenstyle Fall 2019 Jogger Sew Along!! We are sewing the Brassies and/or the Iron Joggers this week! I am so glad you have joined me, and I hope you make some joggers you or someone you love will enjoy. If you haven’t already grabbed your pattern(s), use the code JoggerSAL for 25% off the Iron Joggers* and the Brassies Joggers* through the 19th.

You can find today’s video HERE. Today we are sewing the waistband and hemming or cuffing the bottom of the joggers.

Waistband Tips

I discuss how to sew the waistband as instructed in the patterns in today’s video. If you do not want a drawstring or to do grommets or buttonholes, you can make your waistband without, but you will need to make sure to use fabric that has really great recovery. You can check your fabrics recovery by stretching it very well and seeing how quickly it snaps back into shape. Usually fabrics with a higher spandex content have greater recovery.

Also, try your waistband on to see that it has enough negative ease to stay up. If it does not have enough negative ease to stay up, you will want to sew the back seam (the short end) with a greater seam allowance and try on until it is tight enough.

When I am in a hurry or just want to make joggers to sleep in, I often use the waistband from the Stride tights pattern or make my own. If I make my own, I cut a strip of fabric that is 6.5 inches tall and for the width, I make it 2 inches less than my natural waist measurement (so, if my natural waist is 26, that means the waistband is 24 inches). This is what I did for my daughter’s waistband.

I also did the same on the waistband I made on my Supplex pair, except I made the height on mine the same height as the waistband in the pattern, while my daughters is taller (6.5 inches).
