Hello!! Welcome to the third day of the North Shore Swimsuit Sew Along. If you are just now joining me, now is a great time to jump in and catch up. If you haven’t grabbed your pattern yet, you can grab it HERE. Use code “NSSAL” for 25% off the North Shore Pattern through June 1st.
Here is the schedule (and links to the previous posts you may have missed):
Day 0: Get Supplies
Day 1: Select Size, Cut Out Pattern, and Cut Out Fabric
Day 2: Sew Bottoms
Day 3: YOU ARE HERE – Sew Top
Day 4: Catch Up Day
Day 5: Show Me What You Have Made and Enter to Win Prizes!
Let’s Get Started!! Today we will sew our top. If you are making View A, you will also connect your top to your bottoms.
I have 4 different tops that I have sewn on video for you to watch. This pattern has a multitude of combinations that can be made, so I might not have sewn the EXACT combo of choices that you have made for your top. Having said, that I have made each option, so between all 4 videos, you can watch the parts that apply to the top you are sewing!
The options in this pattern are all pretty interchangeable. For example, I did the strappy front on the Deep V and the Tie Front on the Full Coverage. You can totally do the Tie Front on the Deep V or the Strappy front on the Full Coverage. So do not let the options I chose trip you up.
I also do not have it on video how to do the tie back, but the exact same sewing method as used to sew the halter ties is used on the tie back (you would just use pattern piece 9 for the halter ties that go behind your neck and pattern piece 10 for the ties that go in the middle of your back). If you want to see how the behind the back ties are sewn, watch the video on one of the halter backs where the halter ties are demonstrated.
Now let’s get into the videos. You can watch the four tops I have sewn in the following videos:
(1) Deep V FRONT with Pullover Halter BACK
(2) Deep V Strappy FRONT with a Pullover U BACK
(3) Full Coverage FRONT with a U Swim Hook U BACK
(4) Full Coverage Tie FRONT with a Swim Hook Halter Back
If you are making View A, HERE is the video for connecting your top to your View A bottoms.
Thanks for sewing with me! This post completes our sew along. Tomorrow and Sunday will be catch up days if you need the extra sewing time to finish up (or to make another!). Make sure you find my post on Sunday, June 2nd, and show me what you have made to be eligible to win prizes from our sponsors – a $25 gift card to Raspberry Creek Fabric, a $25 gift card to Made Whimsy, and a free Greenstyle Creations pattern!!
I can’t wait to see what you have made and to sew with you again. I also hope that I have inspired you! You may follow me on Instagram or receive updates by liking my page on Facebook. Hello! I am wondering if you used swim or regular elastic for the 1″ band elastic? I am struggling to find 1″ swim elastic. What might happen if I use regular….? haha

I used swim elastic. I found it at The Fabric Fairy and at Wazoodle. You could try to use regular elastic. I think the problem may be how harsh the chlorine and chemicals are to it. Just check the packaging or website to see if it mentions being ok around chlorine!

[…] I made my measured size on the pattern, and when I first tried it on, the only area that I was not as satisfied with was the bust. My chest sizes is a bit different (um, smaller) in a swimsuit without a bra, so I had to make a slight small bust adjustment to the pattern as well as wear a swim top underneath. The swim top I am wearing underneath is one I made in the North Shore Swimsuit sew along last year. […]
