The Pants

To start out, yes I made hot white pants! They are so bright and perfect for spring. They feel like a breath of fresh air after the worst winter #TexasEnergyGridFail

If you wear white pants, TAKE them out! It is time!

When I got this fabric at the beginning of the year from The Fabric Fairy, I knew immediately that it would make a great pair of leggings. The stretch is firm and compressive, and after spending some time stretching the fabric and feeling it in my hands, I knew that some of my regular leggings patterns would be too tight in it. I also didn’t want to overstretch the white because then it really would show all the things I don’t want to show from underneath. So, I did not immediately sew it up while I thought about what it wanted to become.

Thankfully, Greenstyle released the Simpatico last month, and this leggings pattern is intended for fabrics just like this (with only 50% 4-way stretch required for the pattern). So, I finally got to make my hot white pants!!

The other thing I really love about the Simpatico pattern is that it comes with a petite, standard, and tall file so I did not have to make any adjustments like I always do on bottoms. I made the petite file and made zero adjustments! (I am 5’2″ with a 26 inch inseam to my ankle.)

Also, this white fabric is pretty good at hiding panties and panty lines. I am wearing No Show Briefs in Beige Mist for these photos. (You can watch me sew the No Show Brief pattern HERE.)

When I first made these leggings and tried them on to check how they fit, I was wearing a black pair of panties, and that was definitely a no go, but this fabric is nice and opaque if you wear shades close to your skin tone.

My son is playing baseball this year, and whoever is in charge of uniforms and colors decided that his team would be wearing white pants. Ugggh. I can’t even fathom who thought it was a great idea to give 8-year-old boys white pants for sliding in the dirt and grass. I am cringing inside while cheering when the crowd is yelling SLIDE as that means way more time in the laundry room the following week.

Anyways, I adapted and have gotten pretty good at getting stains out of white pants. The kind of stains I will probably get on mine will all be food and icky toddler hands.

The Pink Top

The pattern I used to sew my top is the Greenstyle Scarlet Swing. This pattern includes dress or tunic lengths, but I LOVE it modified to be a crop top. It is fitted through the arms and bust and immediately flares out.

I used the Chalk and Notch Waterfall raglan crop line as a guide when I was deciding where to hem this pattern for the crop length. I really like the Waterfall Raglan, but it is not fitted in the underarm and bust (the Waterfall side seam is more straight down underneath the armsyce while the Scarlet is flared on the side seam). So, I took what I loved most about that version of the pattern and married it with the Scarlet Swing. If you don’t own the Waterfall raglan, you can get a similar hemline by hemming 10.5 inches underneath the armscye of the Scarlet. You will want to curve the hem following the same curve of the tunic or dress cut line in the pattern.

My top is so forgiving in the tummy area but still works great for movement with how fitted the top of the shirt is. It is a great all day wear shirt as well as chasing around the kids, going on walks and exploring. I just love this style!

The fabric I used is cashmere rose bamboo lycra also from The Fabric Fairy. It is so soft has incredible drape and stretches really well. The color is MY FAVE. I just love pink and this shade makes me so happy!

Any suggestions on what I should do with my scraps of this pink bamboo? I ordered 2 yards and this top did not take much fabric so I have plenty for another top and am having the hardest time deciding!

He asked me all winter long to make him a pair of joggers, but I never quite got to it because the Greenstyle Brassie pattern that he wanted me to make him was designed for a curvier, more feminine figure. I really did not want to take the time to make the adjustments to meet his needs, and I also knew that Angelyn (the designer behind Greenstyle Patterns) had plans to design a joggers pattern that had a more masculine fit. So, I am sure you can guess how excited we both were when she put the pattern into testing last month!

The Iron Joggers – Pattern Details

The Iron Joggers has just released, and I made two versions of the pattern. Let’s talk about the pattern options first: the pattern comes with the option of slant or zippered front pockets, a zippered back pocket(s), and multiple inseam lengths. The inseams to choose from are 5, 7, 9, or 11 inch shorts, capris, cuffed full length joggers with either a 30, 32, or 34 inseam, and no cuff joggers. The waistband of the pattern requires 2 inch elastic and has a casing for a drawstring. The pattern also has the option for a slimmer or fuller calf.

On the shorts version that I made my husband, I used a black cotton spandex French terry from my stash. I suspect that I got it locally. It was only a yard, but with careful cutting, I was able to get this XL 7 inch inseam pair of shorts out of it! For this pair, I used 1/4 inch grommets and parachute cord for the drawstring (It was all they had at hobby lobby, and I was out of drawstring at home!)

I did slant pockets on both of his joggers because I knew he would also sleep in them, and he did not want zippers on the pairs he plans to wear to bed on some nights.

This camo pair is an earlier testing pair before a little extra room was added around the rise. He still loves this pair and wore it for the next three nights in a row after I made them. I think that is a great sign!

This pair also is the fuller calf option. I think I will try the narrower calf for him on his next pair to see how they compare.

I did not get a close up photo of this waistband. Instead of doing grommets on this one, I did buttonholes. For the drawstring, I cut a strip of fabric that was 1.5 inches wide and as long as the width of the fabric. I sewed the long end together and then turned it right side out with a safety pin.

The fabric that I used on this pair is a poly rayon blend French terry that I also bought locally. It is a lighter weight than the black French terry.

This pattern is very beginner friendly in my opinion. You can make this pattern with a standard sewing machine by using a stretch stitch on all of your seams. On the pockets, where you need to topstitch, you can use a twin needle or use the honeycomb stitch on your sewing machine if you want some extra detail.

I just can’t get enough of the Athletic Brushed Polyester from The Styled Magnolia! When I arrived home from vacation about a week ago, I was met with a package loaded with 2 stunning florals and a solid and am excited to show you the project that I made with one of them. 

I made a pair of Super G shorts, a (nursing) strappy Power Sports Bra, and a pair of Inspire tights. Whew! Yes, I got all of this out of a little more than a yard (I noticed she cut generously, and I needed every extra inch I was sent!)

Shortie Super G Tights

On my shortie Super Gs, I cut the pattern piece off at 5 inches below the crotch and adjusted my gusset and pocket pieces accordingly. I also lined the gusset so that all my inseam seams are enclosed. 

I really love this length for the summer. When I finished taking photos, I played a game of tennis with my husband, and my pockets were plenty big and deep to stuff tennis balls in.

For my lower pocket fabric, I used ombre striped yoga knit that was left over from a pair of tights that I blogged about HERE.

I LOVE these fabrics together. I knew I loved a good stripe/floral raglan (you can see my fave such raglan in this blogpost), and now, I can say I absolutely love a good floral/stripe pair of work out shorts. 

Power Sports Bra

I wear power sports bras ALL THE TIME. I am not exaggerating when I say that I DO NOT have enough, though. They are (a) nursing bras that are (b) comfy to wear and (c) that I also can work out in and (d) that I make just using scraps from every work out tight I make. If you haven’t made one yet, you really need to try this pattern. 

The strappy back option in the pattern is probably my favorite, but the pattern also has a racerback and U back option as well. 

I made a size 28D. It has a really wide range of band sizes and cup sizes, which is so perfect for those of us who don’t fit traditional XS, S, M, L, XL sports bras. 

Inspire Tights

The Greenstyle Inspire Tights are my quick go to leggings pattern when I want a pair of tights that can work as just every day leggings and also for working out. I think I go on and on about them too much, but I have to say, “These are my jam!”

I am at the very bottom of the measurement range for my size and am starting to get to the point where I should go down to the next size, but I really have no plans to. I am loving the comfort and ease right now! They are also just so perfect in this ABP!!
