Hi everyone! Greenstyle just released another leggings pattern to add to their collection. Activewear is their bread and butter, and leggings are what they do so well. Today, I will talk about the pattern details and how it compares to Greenstyle’s other leggings patterns. I also have a handy chart for you to see all the Greenstyle leggings details side-by-side.

The Pattern

The Simpatico Leggings include sizes B-M, which covers hips ranging from 32 to 62 inches. The size chart includes measurements for waist, hips, thighs, and calves so that you can get a fit that is just right for your body. The pattern includes a petite, standard, and tall file as well as the option for capri or full length.

The leggings do not have a side seam, and there is not a pocket option. The waistband is the same on the front and back. The pattern includes a mid or high rise waistband option. There is one rise option on the pants, but the rise is different based on which file you choose (meaning the petite rise will be shorter than the tall rise).

This pattern has more ease than a typical athletic tights pattern would and only requires fabric with a minimum of 50% 4-way stretch. You want the fabric to have spandex so that it does not grow or become saggy throughout the day. You also want to make sure the fabric is not see through and is squat proof (more on that later). You can use athletic knits that feel too compressive for the other tights patterns, cotton lycra, double brushed polyester, etc. I would not recommend a rayon or viscose type fabric, though, unless maybe if you intend to wear them as pajamas.

For this pair, I used a Blended Threads athletic knit that feels really tight and too compressive on the other leggings patterns. It was perfect to use for the Simpaticos.

The next pair that I made was in cotton lycra. I feel absolutely naked in these, and even wearing beige mist no show panties, you can see where my panties are.

This is a thicker, nice quality cotton lycra and feels so good to wear. Squat proof, though? NOT at all.

I love the color, but may this serve as a warning to you. Just because you can use a fabric does not mean that you are going to be happy when you bend over in it. Ha! These are now going to be my comfy, but I feel naked pants.

How the Simpaticos Stack Up

Greenstyle has 7 leggings patterns to choose from, and if you are having a hard time deciding which one is right for you, I have a chart for you!

To condense this down a little – Tempos and Simpaticos have the same size chart, come in petite, standard, and tall files and include capri and full length options. Where they differ is that the Tempos are compressive and need 75% or greater 4-way stretch athletic fabric and have super fun colorblocking options and a heart booty option.

The Strides, Super Gs, Tempos, and Sundials have a more compressive athletic fit. The Cavallos are slightly less compressive, and the Inspires and Simpatico are a little less compressive/tight than the Cavallos.

So, I am sure by now, you are wondering how the Simpatico differ from the Inspires. They have similar fit and ease, but the Inspire have a side seam and the options for colorblocking as well as a waistband pocket option. The Inspire also have a smaller size range. The Simpatico have more shaping in the calf and legs and come in petite, standard, and tall files so you aren’t needing to make the length adjustments you may need on the inspire.

I have a leggings comparison video here if you want to see the first 5 patterns in action. Once another 4-5 Greenstyle leggings patterns are available, I may have to do another one of these videos!

Fit Capsule Challenge

Greenstyle just wrapped up the Fit Capsule Challenge, and I had a blast. The creativity of the sewists who participated this year was amazing, and I felt so inspired watching everyone’s makes!

I am really happy with the few pieces I sewed because I plan to wear them a lot. Did I make everything I wanted to? NO. I never seem to have the same amount of hours in a day as actual ideas. I did get in 5 pieces, and even though the challenge is over, there is nothing stopping me from working on the rest.

The first step that I took in planning my fitness capsule was to pick the colors I wanted. I chose pink and blue with white and black as a base around those. Next, I picked fabric to go with my colors.

For the white, I did not want a solid but wanted more of a neutral light or cream print. This pink and cream leopard was perfect for that. I blogged about this set here.

This pink Studio to Street hoodie is one that I made a few years ago (top right). I love the color because I have noticed it goes so well with a lot of the clothes in my closet. It is great to use items you already own and love for a base to plan a capsule around, and this hoodie was really my inspiration for everything I made for the challenge this year.

I also added the pink Simpatico leggings I chatted with you about above. I now wonder whether this was a good choice and leggings this color are appropriate. I look naked, right? (yikes)

For the blue, I made the Simpatico leggings as well. I like the different shades of pinks/purples in this print because it will make this pair really versatile. This fabric was an excellent choice.

Finally, for the black I wanted in my capsule, I made a Lille tank in bamboo/cotton. The funny thing about this tank was that I found it in a scrap bin. I had started on it, sewed the side and shoulders seams and then lost it in my sewing room at some point last year. When I found it, it did not have bands or a hem. Thankfully, it was in the scrap bin right next to a scrap of the same fabric that was big enough to finish this part. What a great find!

I love how the racer back is perfect to go under a sports bra and still show off my back muscles (that hopefully are growing lol). I also love how it is fitted in the bust and upper back while it has ease and is loose in my mid section.

Did you participate in the fit capsule this year? Let me know what you loved about the challenge!

Thanks, Sharon, for this chart. It should definitely come in handy when I’m planning my legging makes. Your makes are beautiful.

Thank you for this info. I’d do two capsules and it was fun and made me focus on color combinations. Did the Super Gs and the Sundials and was just wondering since they ride down just a bit in the body could it be that the rise is too high? Also wondering about the fabric for the Simpatico. If I use a fabric with greater than 50% stretch, would you go down a size?

It depends on how much greater it was than 50% and where you are in your size range. If you are at the bottom of your size range and the fabric had upwards of 100% stretch, I would go down a size. Your Super Gs and Sundials could be riding down for a few reasons and the front rise being too high could be one. Is your waistband tight enough? Is your waistband fabric a compressive fabric or slinkier? On some fabrics, I have to remove some from the width of my waistband so it doesn’t slide down.

Thanks Sharon. All of that makes sense and it’s a matter of narrowing it down.
