Happy New Years friends! I have a new leggings pattern to show you today – the Greenstyle Sundial Leggings. I hope you had a restful holiday break and a moment to be creative. I spent a lot of my break working on sewing projects I have put on the back burner during the school semester, and I am excited to show you the first of those today!

The Pattern Details + Sizing

The Sundial Leggings is a no side-seam athletic leggings pattern that has three different waistband options. The pattern includes sizes B-M, which fit hips measuring 32 to 62 inches. The waistband can be a solid regular waistband that has a V at the bottom, a cross over v waistband, or both together!

Athletic Leggings Sewing Pattern

You can choose between a high or low rise. The pattern also includes a guide for adjusting the rise as well as adding or removing length in the legs and grading for different sizes.

My hips measure 35 inches at the fullest part, which puts me exactly at the top of a C or the bottom of a D. I chose the larger size – Size D. My thighs fit in this size so I did not need to adjust for them. My calves currently measure 13.75 inches so I graded to an E in the calf area in the pattern. If you are new to grading for calves, there is a description of how to do this at the end of the pattern instructions. I still feel like I should have given my calves more room. They feel really tight there so I think I will grade out even more on my next pair.

I also removed 1.5 inches at the first lengthen/shorten line. I should have removed an additional .5 to 1 inch at the second lengthen/shorten line but oh well, they are a tiny bit long. I normally remove 3 inches, but this one did not seem to run as long as other Greenstyle tights patterns. (They are all drafted for 5’7″ with a 30 inch inseam).

Fabric

I used the Greenstyle Align Fabric in Dark Teal. This fabric is a nylon spandex blend that feels identical to a what you can find in stores at Lululemon and other high end athletic suppliers. The color is SO GOOD! I absolutely love this shade of teal.

This fabric is SUPER compressive. The spandex is 29% so it really is no joke how much they hold it all in. To be honest, I will probably wear these only for working out. It is just too much tightness to wear all day long. I have used this fabric for joggers, and I really like the way they felt for every day wear since that pattern has positive ease. I think if I use it for leggings again, I will use the Inspire pattern since it has more ease than all the other Greenstyle leggings. I think if you like compression, you will love this fabric.

If you want more of my thoughts on compression and how the Greenstyle leggings patterns stack up, watch my leggings comparison here. I did that video before this pattern released, and I think the Sundials have the same compression and feel as the Tempo/Super G/Stride tights. What sets this pattern apart from those is that this one is a simple, super quick pattern with the main design detail being the v front. It is a great pattern for those fabrics that you don’t want to have a pocket or side seam (which is always the case when I am dealing with stripes!).

My top is the Xpress tank that I made several years ago. I am now in the next size down so this one fits a bit big on me. Since this one is tie back, it isn’t so obvious. I just have a longer tail to tuck in after tying it, and I get a little more easy breathing armpit area for work outs.

I think the Xpress is a great pattern to try out if you are in the middle of losing weight and do not want to make a lot of workout clothes that won’t fit you when you meet your goals.

My bra is my all time fave Power Sports Bra. This one is a nursing version, and I have the details on how I do the nursing clips on this bra here

My necklace is from the Fabric Snob. It says “Sewist.”

My shoes are Brooks Ricochet. I tried out this line of Brooks last year and loved how good my feet felt in them so I bought three colorways of this one! I have been a fan of Brooks shoes for years and every time I find a particular one I like, I buy all the colors before they get rid of them the next season. I found this particular pair on a clearance site for half price so win win! I have pretty flat feet, and my arches hurt if I walk around barefoot all day so I wear my running shoes all the time.

The new Sundial Green Style Creation leggings look amazing on you and I love the teal color!! I definitely love to have pockets as an option, so I will wait to see if someone offers a hack for adding them to this pattern. I’ll be following to see all the beautiful creations you come up with.

I like to have pockets too. I think I will need to wear these with a hoodie or a top with pockets this winter. If you want to add pockets, you would need to either add it to the back of the waistband or add a side seam.
