Great news! I have some sewing fun in store for you next month! It also happens that my birthday is next month so it seems meant to be. This is the post with all the information you need to mark your calendars as well as prepare your supplies. I also have some new athletic sews to show you!

Embrace Sports Bra Sew Along

We will kick the month off with an Embrace Sports Bra sew along that will run the second week of February beginning February 8th. The sew along is sponsored by The Fabric Fairy. I will have videos on my YouTube channel each day with a demonstration of that days steps. If you want to participate and be eligible to win a prize from The Fabric Fairy, just make sure to check in on my post in their Facebook group each day during the sew along. If you miss it, though, the videos will stay on YouTube for you to find at any time.

The Embrace sports bra has three different back options: choose from a racerback, u back, or layered U and racer for max support. You can have a keyhole at the bottom of the back or not. You also may add a bra clasp!

The Embrace has two front options, a solid, non-colorblocked version or a colorblocked one. I think that is one of my favorite parts of this bra, is having one that does not show seam lines on the front of my shirt and still gives me great shaping and support. I even made one out of a nude fabric to wear under t shirts.

I felt it was super awkward attempting to take photos wearing a nude bra all by itself. I felt so much more naked than I would in a bra with all the fun colors and prints so you will just have to trust me that it is a U back with a solid front. So, I took a really quick photo so you get the idea! Here is what it looks like under a Centerfield raglan.

Supplies and Discounts

If you would like to join me, make sure you get all your supplies ready between now and February 8th!

You can get the Embrace Sports Bra pattern here. Use code “embraceSAL21” for 25% off now through Feb 13th.

For fabric, use code “CapsuleSAL” to get 10% off at The Fabric Fairy. If you want to use fabric from other companies that is also perfectly fine and you can still participate and be eligible to win just as well by participating in my sew along posts in their group each day of the sew along.

You will need 1/2-3/4 yard of athletic fabric for the main and then 1/2-3/4 yard for the lining. You also will need 1/4 inch clear elastic to reinforce your seams and 1.5 or 2 inch elastic for your bottom band. If you plan to do a bra clasp or use cups, you will need those as well.

You may also want to order extra yardage of your fabric so you can make matching tights or to get ready for Fit Capsules next month, which gets us to the next topic…

Fit Capsules

Every year Greenstyle hosts a fitness capsule challenge, and it is SO FUN! This year it will start on Feb 15th and run for 4 weeks. Look out for more details for this years fun by checking their blog and Facebook group on that day. There are a bunch of sponsors and prizes. It is something that I look forward to all year!

Just to get in the capsule mood, I ordered this lush bamboo organic cotton spandex and made two tops out of it and then made a matching bra/tights set that coordinate really well with my two black tops using some athletic and swim fabric. To participate in the challenge next month, you just need to sew a minimum of 3 activewear items from Greenstyle patterns so I wanted to show you just how easy it is to get 3 versatile items that all coordinate together. I got 4 easily out of these 3 fabrics!

I think a good formula for a mini capsule is getting 2 solids that you love together and a print that matches both. Of course, there are lots more ways to put together a capsule, but this is one that is tried and true.

Black Bamboo Cotton Tops

Out of the black bamboo, I made a looser fitting pattern and a tight fitting pattern just so I had a black top to wear depending on what I am feeling that day. The looser fitting one is the Greenstyle Cambria with the bishop sleeves option.

I did the lower crew neck option and cut at the high hip length.

This bamboo is just so incredibly soft and the cotton makes it not too thin. For my next top, I made a Centerfield raglan. I sized up one time on this pattern and removed an inch from the bottom and from the sleeves.

This is a great basic layering top that can be worn dressed up  or for athletics. I love the neckline and shaping of it, and the bamboo cotton blend is just thick enough to not show every lump and bump and bone when worn as a tighter fitting top. You can just kind of see the shape of my U back bra when I stretch.

The Super Gs

Finally, we have the good old Super Gs. The patterned fabric I picked for my set is a swim fabric so I did not want an entire pair of leggings out of swim. I am fine using it on pockets or as an accent, but swim is not my favorite for the body of my legs. If I was working with a print that was supplex or ABP while sewing up a mini capsule, I would have made my leggings all out of the print and then made another pair out of the solid.

So, I chose the Super Gs because they have a great pocket to use use that swim print! I also love the way this pair looks with my Embrace Bra!

The main purplish fabric is Olympus and this color is called Deep Pomegrate. Other fabric sites have called this Yoga or Yoga Flex fabric. It is a smooth lighter weight knit that is really similar to swim but is not exactly as slippery and works better for leggings. The inside of my waistband is a firm and soft athletic brushed polyester scrap from my bin.

I will wear these leggings more beginning in the spring and throughout the warmer months. I have two types of leggings that I like to wear – the warm and soft ones that work in colder months and the cool thinner ones that I can wear in a gym or outside in the hot months.

I hope my little mini capsule inspired you and that you sew one with me next month! If you want more details, you can read my past blogposts on Fit Capsules here and here. Also, please let me know if there are other resources you need to get started!

The Next Sew Along…

If you have read this far, I would also love to tell you that as soon as we finish the Embrace Sew along, we will do the Sundial Leggings!! I am planning that one during the fit capsule challenge and your finished Sundials can count as one of your three fit capsule items!

I hope I have inspired you in today’s post!  I would love to stay connected with you. You can find me on Instagram. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE. If you want to take a look into the things that inspire me, you can follow me on Pinterest. You may also follow my blog with Bloglovin.

Hi Sharon, This is very exciting because I was planning to make the embrace bra next week and it is going my sports bra make. SO really looking forward to working through it with you. My question is that can I use power mesh instead of the lining or do I need lining and power mesh? Also can I use basic nude swim wear lining fabric for the lining?

Hi Priti! I am glad you are excited and joining! I would do lining and power mesh. Often times power net, power mesh, and techsheen are great at adding support but aren’t the softest next to the skin. You can cut it out of the lining pattern piece and baste it to your lining and treat them as one piece. Yes, you can use basic nude swim wear lining for the lining! It is definitely soft enough.

Hi Sharon, I have two questions…the 1.5/2″ elastic…is that the clear elastic as well? Did you use the swim for your lining or the Bamboo Cotton?
