Do you want to sew some leggings with me?? Join me in the Greenstyle Creations Group from October 5th to the 10th. I have some fun prizes and discounts for you, and this is the post with all the details.

Let me break the ice with just saying “Leggings are pants.” Not only are they pants, but they are the perfect thing to be sewing this fall!

I want to add a few more pairs of leggings to my wardrobe to kick the upcoming cozy season off and thought it would be even more fun to sew them with you! So, I got some discounts for supplies and sponsors and prizes so we can make an entire party of it. Will you join me?

We will start on October 5th, and the final day for you to finish a pair is October 10th! I will make a post each day with that day’s prompt or task. To participate, just comment with any progress you have made, questions, or just with a response to that post!

Sponsors and Discounts

Greenstyle Creations, The Styled Magnolia, The Fabric Fairy, Sew Dynamic Fabrics, and Halo Fabric (Canada) have so graciously offered to sponsor! Here are the discounts you can use to get your supplies ready for the sew along.

  • All Greenstyle leggings patterns are marked down 25% through October 10th, no code needed!
  • Greenstyle Creations Fabric – Use code “LEGGINGSAL” for 10% off knit fabrics through October 10th.
  • The Styled Magnolia – Use code “LEGGINGS2020” for 10% off all in stock retail fabric from September 21st through the 25th.

Prizes

We have some fun prizes for those who participate!! To be eligible to win a prize, you will need to sew at least one pair of leggings using a Greenstyle leggings pattern. You can choose from the Inspires, Cavallos, Tempos, Super Gs, Strides, or Kids Strides.

You can make multiple pairs of leggings as well, and I will count each pair as an entry 🙂

The fabric does not have to be from one of our sponsors, but I definitely encourage you to check out their fabric shops and see what they have to offer because these shops carry some of the best athletic fabric I have sewn with.

The prizes we have available are a $50 gift card to Greenstyle Creations, $50 gift card to The Styled Magnolia, $30 gift card to The Fabric Fairy, a $30 retail credit to Sew Dynamic, and two $25 gift cards to Halo Fabric. International participants can join as well and will be eligible to win a free pattern to Greenstyle Creations (or you can pay international shipping if you desire a fabric prize!)

Video Support

For the #sewalltheleggings event, I will have a video comparing all the Greenstyle leggings patterns and talking about all their options and fit. I am so excited about this video and hope you find it super helpful!

I will also be sewing the Tempo tights! The tempo tights are the one Greenstyle pattern that do not have a video sew along so I will have that up for you to sew along with me. I will also link the videos for all the other previous leggings sew alongs.

Let me know if there is any other support or questions you have beforehand so I can make sure to cover it! I can’t wait to get started!

Grab your patterns while they are on sale! Inspires, Cavallos, Tempos, Super Gs, Strides, or Kids Strides. If you are not sure which one you need, stay tuned to Day 1 of #sewalltheleggings, and I will have a video showing you each one to help you decide! In the meantime, you can see some of the many leggings I have sewn HERE.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I would love to stay connected with you. You can find me on Instagram. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE. If you want to take a look into the things that inspire me, you can follow me on Pinterest. You may also follow my blog with Bloglovin.

Will I need to use a serger? I noticed that a lot of the leggings/tights have what look like serger seams.

    Sharon Aguilar · October 1, 2020 at 5:31 pm

A serger is not required. You can construct all the seams on leggings using a regular sewing machine. You will need to use a stretch stitch that allows your seams to stretch with your fabric. Check your manual and see which stitches it has and practice on stretchy knit fabric. A lightning bolt or triple stretch stitch are good ones. I use a twin needle on my regular machine for hemming and topstitching the seams.

I would love to join along.i have a green styles pattern and fabrics just waiting to be sewn up. I’ve been waiting for a SAL to make my first pair.

    Sharon Aguilar · October 1, 2020 at 5:28 pm

Glad you have your pattern and are joining in!

Karen · September 29, 2020 at 2:56 pm

Hi! Will you be discussing pattern grading? It’s my first time sewing pants and there are several pieces.

    Sharon Aguilar · September 29, 2020 at 3:08 pm

Hi Karen! Yes, I will be discussing pattern grading!

      Dee · October 1, 2020 at 4:03 pm

      I don’t even know what that means🤦🏼‍♀️
I would really like to make a pair of leggings/pants but I am a complete novice, live in the uk and not so sure on fabric either. What are my chances? 😥

        Sharon Aguilar · October 1, 2020 at 5:34 pm

Hi Dee! Pattern grading refers to needing to adjust your pattern pieces for your specific body. For example, I have larger calves so always need to go up around 2 sizes on most patterns on this part. I think you could make a pair of leggings, even as a novice! You may want to start by watching the videos and asking questions. Then, when you are ready to jump in, go for it!!

I’m new to this, but very interested in a leggings sewalong!

Karem · September 27, 2020 at 3:47 pm

For the Tempos, do I need:
Optional – 1 package of 3/8” clear elastic or up to 1 1/2 yard of 3/8” knit elastic

• Optional – small scrap of knit interfacing What’s this for?

    Sharon Aguilar · September 27, 2020 at 3:52 pm

The clear elastic is for the inside seam at the top of your waistband. It helps to secure your leggings so they don’t slip down during exercise. I will mention it in the video when we get to that step! I personally don’t use it because I don’t like the feel of elastic on my stomach but a lot of people swear by it for keeping their leggings secure. The small scrap of knit interfacing goes across the top edge of the pocket to keep the pocket seam from stretching out. If you have fabric with really good recovery, it is not necessary.

Would it be possible to see the fit video now so I have time to select my pattern, purchase, print, tape and cut

    Sharon Aguilar · September 25, 2020 at 12:39 pm

I can try to get it up at least a few days early! I will be finishing editing this weekend.

Kate Cricco · September 24, 2020 at 6:25 am

Not sure if my previous post worked as I used the wrong email 🙁 Anyway, planning to join! Have not yet made leggings and look forward to the tutorials- have a sewing machine and serger, no coverstitch. Have the super G’s pattern, but look forward to the first tutorial to decide if I might need ( they are on sale…) a different one! I will check with Angela re samples, but have some material that I may use as a muslin first. Thanks so much for doing this! Just what I need!

Kate Cricco · September 24, 2020 at 6:12 am

Hi- am excited to try this! Hoping I can follow through! I discovered Greenstyle a few weeks ago( thanks Love, Lucie!) and am hooked! I have not made leggings before! I have a serger and sewing machine, but no coverstitch- so I am looking forward to your tutorials. Look forward to the first day about which pattern to use- I already have the Super G’s, but with all on sale, maybe I need another pattern! I have some material, but will ask Angela for a sample packet as I also have trouble with the variety of fabrics available! Thanks!!

Holly · September 21, 2020 at 7:38 pm

I would love to participate! I have wanted to try sewing leggings.

Crystal · September 21, 2020 at 7:06 pm

So, I really find all the different types of athletic fabric a bit bewildering. So… Say I want to make some nice thick leggings to wear as pants… Like Spanx, what fabric type should I be looking for?

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 7:23 pm

Crystal, there are so many different athletic fabrics!! I think it would really help you to get a sample pack from Greenstyle to feel the ones she offers and it will help you get on that is closest to your needs. They are free (you just pay shipping!). If there aren’t any listed on the Greenstyle page, send Angelyn Bennet a message or email info@greenstylecreations.com to get one. I love to make leggings out of athletic brushed poly and supplex type fabrics. ABP is brushed and soft and supplex has a cottony feel. If you want a more smooth feel to wear under dresses, you will need a different base like Greenstyle Align or The Styled Magnolia Yoga knit. Also, you can message me with questions about a specific fabric because I probably have tried it!

      Crystal · September 21, 2020 at 8:26 pm

That’s a good idea! I’ll order one and blow the massive amount of dust off my coverstitch.

Laurel Simon · September 21, 2020 at 5:51 pm

Would love to know if reverse coverstitch will be included on the Sew-Along?

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 7:24 pm

Yes! It will. The pair I filmed for the sew along are reverse coverstitched, and I will go over how I did it.

Laurissa · September 21, 2020 at 3:38 pm

Would it be possible for you to go over cover stitching without a cover stitch machine. Love green style patterns and ALL of the fabric shops you listed. I’m so intimidated to see a pair of leggings. Hopefully this will get me going.

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 3:47 pm

That is a great idea! I made leggings for several years before owning a coverstitch machine. I can go over top stitching with a regular machine!

Gill Spittal · September 21, 2020 at 3:18 pm

looking to see which pattern to use

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 3:47 pm

I think the video I do the first day will really help you decide!

Amy Makowsky · September 21, 2020 at 2:43 pm

Very excited about the leggings sew along! I look forward to sewing more cavallos but using the tempo pattern for the sew along❤️ Now for some fabric shopping!

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 3:48 pm

Have fun fabric shopping! I am glad you are joining me!

Cyndi Parks · September 21, 2020 at 1:19 pm

Hi there! I’d love to join in! I’m kinda pokey at the whole garment sewing thing still but still want to give it a shot!

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 3:48 pm

I am glad you are joining me! It will be fun!

Gretchen Phillips · September 21, 2020 at 5:51 am

Hi! So glad you’re doing this – what fun! Don’t think I’ll be able to sew along but will definitely watch back! Thank you for all your help to me 🙂 I want to love the Tempo tights but not in love with the lines visually… do you find them functional in a way others are not?
Gretchen

    Sharon Aguilar · September 21, 2020 at 11:36 am

I think the visual lines are what make the tempos special. You can participate in the sew along using any Greenstyle leggings pattern though!
