Made for Mermaids Claire

Christmas is inching closer and closer and my sewing hobby has turned mostly to making gifts. It felt so refreshing, though, to step back and reward myself after a long week by making something just for me!

I made the Made for Mermaids Mama Claire. It has been on my “to sew” list ever since it released, and I am so glad that I finally took the time to make it! I was instantly drawn to it as an easy to nurse in top and am glad to report that it is definitely very easy to nurse in.

Cross Over Sweater Pattern

The Pattern

The Claire pattern is rather straightforward. It is 3 pattern pieces (front, back, and sleeves). The pattern includes a cut chart for the neck binding and for the bottom band. The bottom band can be a standard height or tall. I chose standard. If you choose the tall, it will be more of a tunic.

The front is cut as two mirror images that are lain on top of each other. It gives the V neck look without having to sew a V neck. It’s surprisingly quick to sew.

My favorite way to wear it is with the cross over in the front.

If I wear it in reverse, here is what my top looks like:

Fabric

I used sweater knit from Knitpop*. I got it in their anniversary sale in early November and wasn’t sure what I would think about it; so, I only ordered this particular color. I LOVED it, and immediately ordered several other colors in their Black Friday sale just a week or so later. It is soft and brushed and feels really good on. It has nice horizontal stretch and just a little (not much) vertical stretch.

While I was taking photos, I found this fun Santa photo booth that had been set up and was (at the moment) unattended. I thought it would be fun to grab a few photos there, and when I finished, some men arrived and took it down. What timing!? Haha. I am glad they didn’t arrive when I was having fun in the Santa chair.
