Do you ever get a knit fabric that you love but has absolutely no stretch? I have several fabrics like this in my stash that have set on my shelf for a little longer than I would like to admit.

Then, I saw a tester call for the Wardrobe by Me Boxy Raglan, and I jumped on the chance to sew it up!

The Boxy Raglan* is just perfect in knits that don’t have stretch. It makes a great layering sweatshirt or can be worn as a top by itself. It works with jeans, or if you are like me and ardently believe that leggings are pants, then you will love wearing it with your leggings. It makes a great top to throw over a tank top after working out as well!

And, the best part is that it is absolutely quick to sew and requires no hemming.

The pattern comes in sizes 0 to 24, which covers busts measuring from 30 to 48 inches. I made the size 2 for my daughter who turns 11 next week and made the size 4 for myself. I chose the cropped length with neckline A for both of our tops.

For my daughter’s top, I used a knit french terry that has barely any stretch (maybe just slight mechanical stretch). It was a gift from a lovely friend and the terry side is a flashy hot pink and the right side is more somber grey. When looked at from afar, the wrong side peeks out just enough to give it depth and dimension. It is so pretty!

The pattern is drafted to use ribbing for the cuffs, neckband, and bottom band. On her top, I did not have a coordinating ribbing that looked pleasing up next to this french terry so I added to the neckband length to make it work and chose the loosest bottom band length option on the pattern (it has two depending on your preference of bottom band tightness). I left the cuffs as is.

I removed 4.5 inches in length from her sleeves so that they were not too long on her arms. The pattern is drafted for 5’8. I am 5’2,” and she is definitely not 5 foot yet. I removed 3 inches on my sleeves on the striped top.

My striped top is made in a knit that I have no idea what type it is. It just feels like a very stable cotton but has absolutely zero stretch, not even any mechanical. The stripes are actually going along the selvage so I had to cut it out cross grain to get the stripes horizontal! Thankfully, I found lots of white ribbing in my stash for my tops.

For my next top, I rustled through my scrap bin and used some french terry left over from hoodies. This french terry has about 25% stretch. I only removed an inch from the sleeves on this one and love that I can put my hands inside of my top to keep them warm!

The pattern for the Boxy Raglan is on sale through the end of the year. You can grab it here*.
