I recently got to test the
Ellie and Mac Tres Belle Wrap Dress, and I am pretty excited with how my dress turned out!
Pattern Details
The
Tres Belle Wrap Tunic and Dress has a cross over bodice with the options of a half or full circle skirt with thigh or knee lengths or a gathered skirt with multiple lengths.
This pattern is pretty much the dress version of Ellie and Mac’s South Shore romper. The bodice was slightly modified to have a lower armpit, and the bodice was shortened some, which I am guessing has to do with handling the weight of this circle skirt.
Sizing and Adjustments
The pattern fits bust sizes 29 inches to 60 inches. I made a straight XS
without modifications. This pattern is drafted for a 5’4″ height and an 8 inch side waist. Even though I am 5’2″, I have an 8 inch side waist. To measure your side waist, put your measuring tape under your arm with your arm down, start at the crease, and measure until you get to your natural waist. The natural waist on me is where I naturally bend when I bend from side to side.
The 2 inches that I am shorter than the drafted height appears to be all in my calves, which is very normal for me when making adjustments. I was glad to be able to print the pattern as it was and get such a wonderful fit!
The waist tie is not attached to the dress at all, but I think it looks wonderful on the dress!
As you can imagine, I had a lot of fun taking photos of this dress!!
Fabric
I used an ITY that I got from Knitpop. I only had 2 yards of it, and I have to admit that I felt like an absolute sewing ninja when I got this dress out of 2 yards. I had just a few tiny pieces left. I had to piece my waist tie together, but my quilting heart was so happy to do so!
After all of that spinning, my waist tie started to slip. ITY is very slippery so that was no surprise. Sewing with it is worse than sewing with swim, but the drape and recovery it has is just INCREDIBLE! You are going to have a much fuller skirt with cotton lycra or Liverpool, while ITY and rayon spandex will give you all the figure hugging curves.
The colors in this fabric make my heart so happy too!
You know my
favorite part of this dress? It is incredibly easy to breastfeed in. I feel that my dress sewing has really taken a back seat the last year and a half, but when I see a dress that is easy to breastfeed in, I JUMP on it!
