I love a quick, simple, and satisfying project to sew for my kids! It helps me fill some basics in their closets, and they love wearing mom-made clothes still.
As summer (and vacation!) quickly approaches, I took the time to make my 8 year old some T Shirt dresses and wanted to share them with you today.
I was a pattern tester for this pattern several weeks ago, and wanted to make another version.
This girl seems to grow straight up so I knew I wanted to add length. I did not add length at the lengthen/shorten line in the pattern, though, because I wanted the extra to be at the hem.
I ended up adding 1.75 inches to the hem, and it gives it a little more space for those long legs to grow.
She is so happy that I used this unicorn fabric she has had her eyes on for some time. I found this fabric at Jumping June Textiles and had been saving it for her for the perfect project.
She even wore her favorite unicorn bow with it!
I also want to show you the tester version that I made several weeks ago. You can see it falls more above her knees. I used a jersey fabric that I found at Wherehouse Fabrics for this one. If you are ever in Dallas, let me know. I LOVE to go to Wherehouse. They have these tables in the back that are PILED with remnants. The remnants are $2.99/yard (and even less when there is a sale). The only catch is that you have to buy the whole piece, and a lot of the time, they are multiple yard pieces. I find them perfect for pattern testing.
She has wanted a dress out of this particular fabric for some time now because I made her sister a Mabel Top out of it this past winter.
My thoughts on this pattern – It is packed full of options. The kids has options for every kid in your house, from hoodies to summer tanks. I like the kangaroo pocket and hope I get a chance to make one for my kids with the pocket. I prefer a longer dress length because of how fast my kids grow in the height department, but that is such an easy fix. This is one of those patterns that I think is a workhorse and gives you lots of options for all seasons.
