Comfy Loggers

One of my most used patterns is quickly becoming the Greenstyle Inspire Tights*. It is such a great fitting tights pattern and quick to sew up. I added pockets to this pair by using the Brassie joggers patterns pocket. I talked about how I did that in this post. I am still saving up for a coverstitch machine so I used the honeycomb stitch on my regular sewing machine to topstitch the pockets and my inseam.

I accidentally cut the pattern three inches too short when I cut them out this time!! Yikes! Somehow part of my pattern piece didn’t get all the way unfolded, and I didn’t notice until I had sewn them up and tried them on. It is definitely cold weather now, and I was not wanting crop tights, so I added cuffs and now have a pair of legging/joggers aka loggers.

The fabric I used for the tights is an Athletic Brushed Poly from The Styled Magnolia. It is one of my favorite bases! I bought this at retail a few months back and saved it to use for my fall sewing. I think the ABP is a fave because it is soft and warm to the touch and not a cold feeling fabric like swim or some athletic knits. I don’t like the feeling of cold pants.

This print is in stock on the Supplex base here, which is just as soft and wonderful for tights and joggers as the athletic brushed polyester. The Supplex is a nylon base and is a little more breathable than this polyester base.

Also, look at this bird! The shades of blue and details in the artwork of this print are just outstanding!

The Hoodie

For my hoodie, I used the Greenstyle Studio to Street Top Pattern* with the Hood Add On*. I used French Terry from Joann that is nice and stable. It has been in my stash for quite some time, and I can’t find it on their website anymore, though!

Even though the pattern is intended for stretchier fabric, it still worked great. The part of the pattern that is fitted and needs the negative ease is the sleeves so I sized up the sleeves and used a 1/4 inch seam allowance on them (rather than the 3/8 inch included in the pattern.) This gave me the extra ease for the thicker fabric. I made my measured size for the hood and the body since it has plenty of ease already.

For the bottom band, I used the split hem band pattern piece but instead of splitting the hem, I sewed up the sides. I felt like the split hem band just stuck out in this stiffer fabric. I used a wider seam allowance when I closed up the sides of the bottom band – maybe 5/8 inch.

The Kangaroo Pocket will be a free add on for all the Greenstyle Top patterns. I will update the post with a link once it releases (around Thanksgiving!!)
