Hello friends! Summer is quickly coming to an end, and just a few days we will be welcoming fall!! I am excited to be on Itch to Stitch’s September Blog Tour today and have a fun outfit that I made that is perfect for Texas’s version of fall. I also have a giveaway for you, so stick around to the end.

The Patterns

For my leg of the tour, I made one new-to-me pattern and one oldie-but-goodie pattern. This was my first time to make the Tierra Woven Joggers*, and I am so glad I did! They are super comfortable, easy to sew, and easy to wear. I also made another free Lago tank. Even though I already have at least a handful of in my closet, I wear them all the time, and they are perfect to layer under a cardigan when our weather finally decides to turn cooler in the mid to late fall.

The Tierras

Since I am a petite 5’2″, I made adjustments to fit the Tierras* to my body. To start with, I made a size 0. My hips are 35 inches and since I was using stretch woven and wanted a more fitted garment, I chose to go with the smaller size.

The rise on the Tierra’s* is a very low rise. Thankfully, the pattern includes a lengthen/shorten line for the rise. I added one inch to the rise, and it is in a much more comfortable spot on me. I probably could have add another half of an inch, but I am happy with where it is and will keep it the same in future pairs.

The pattern has different inseams based on your size. The inseam is the longest on the smaller sizes and gets slightly shorter (not by much though) as the sizes increase. I have a 27 inch inseam to my ankle and removed a total of 3.5 inches. I removed 1 inch at the lengthen/shorten line, then I drew another lengthen/shorten line 5.25 inches below that and removed 1.25 inches. Then, I drew a third lengthen/shorten line 5.25 inches below the second and removed my final 1.25 inches.

This gave my joggers a finished inseam of 27 and 5/8ths. I did not want them any shorter because since they are a woven jogger (as opposed to knit), you do not have vertical stretch to keep the bottom of your pants down around your ankles when you bend over, squat to pick up a toy, or run around in them. I wanted to have a little baggy at the bottom to give me the ease of movement I wanted for bending activities.

I used burgundy stretch woven from The Fabric Fairy for my pants. I normally use this fabric for athletic shorts, but I think it works perfect for woven joggers too. They can be worn to the gym, or around the house in my daily life, or dressed up with heels to go out to dinner with friends or my husband. The stretch in the fabric lends a little more comfort and ease to the joggers and gives them a nice drape so the legs don’t look tent-like on me.

The Lago Tank

The tank top I made is the free Lago tank. I have made several of these, and they are just so comfortable to wear. This one is in a rayon spandex that I bought from Wherehouse fabrics Dallas. It was a “remnant” off the remnant tables. Their remnants are huge, though, and I still have like 4 yards left. I hope I don’t get tired of this print!

The Lago is a great free pattern to pick up if you do not already own it. Since my shortness is all concentrated to my legs, I make no adjustments to it and just make my measured size.

The Photo Spot + Memories

A few weeks ago my family and I went to the Dallas Arboretum to walk through the flowers and take everything in with the kids. For the first few years of our marriage, my husband and I lived at White Rock Lake, which is next door to the Arboretum. It is such a beautiful lake, and my favorite part of living there was the hike and bike trails around the lake. To make it around the whole lake was around 13 miles, and it sure kept us newly weds busy. I jogged much more at the time and my husband biked it often. We also took walks around the lake almost every evening after dinner. I have some very fond memories of long conversations that occurred while walking around the lake with my husband and with friends who came to visit.

So, when we left the Arboretum that day, I nudged my husband and asked if he wouldn’t mind if we stopped by the entry point to the trails and take some blog photos.

We only made it through a few happy photos before I started crying. I couldn’t help but think of all the moments, dreams, conversations, and hopes that were contained in this one spot. Life was so simple then. I had no kids and really no thoughts about kids. I didn’t sew or have any hobbies besides athletics and my husband. I was not on social media and had a phone that I just used to call friends or my mom. My life was law school at the time, and I really didn’t foresee just how different it would become. I am happy in my current state but can’t help but think about just how simple life was. Thankfully, I had my glasses on my head when I started to choke up. 🙂

I saw your review on PR and popped over to get more details. I am vertically challenged like you and was curious about the length. Thanks for the details of how you shortened the length. I have been looking for this style in woven and glad I got a lot of good information from your blog post. I think you achieved a good fit with this pattern!!

Lovely outfit and so fond memories. Sometimes, reflecting on life past may trigger tears, but sometimes you also see what you have accomplished.

Awe, you made ME choke up reading about your memories! You make joggers look so ELEGANT! I wish I knew your secret. Mine only manage to look like loungewear. You are my goal!

Love this! And I love that you were able to go back and take photos there. I would love to do the same some day, but we haven’t been back to where we first lived for years and it’s states away. 🙁

I love this outfit, and what special memories were conjured up! It is amazing the trajectory our lives take! I never imagined ending up staying in a foreign country the rest of my life after college, but here I am!

    Sharon Aguilar · September 22, 2019 at 10:14 pm

Thank you! I am amazed too. I love what it has become, even if it is nothing like what I imagined.

Your blog was so interesting to read. You have become such a beautiful sewer and have such a great family! Yes, life was simpler, but be proud of all you have accomplished.
