Sewing a No Panty Line Brief

Today’s post might be just a bit personal. It’s an important topic, though, especially when you sew and wear a lot of athletics! I also have a video for you to watch of me sewing what I am here to talk about today… so stay for that part!

Here we go… Do you like to wear granny panties??? I am definitely team briefs. I can’t believe I am announcing that to the world (gasp) maybe I should delete this post later, but in real life, it is kind of obvious that I am team granny panties because when I wear leggings… You know what happens. Everyone can see that panty line. Well, hopefully not everyone is looking. I can wear a thong for photos and maybe a few hours, but I am just so comfy in the full fledge brief.

Today, I am excited to announce that I no longer have to worry about the panty line!! Greenstyle just released the No Show Brief, and just as the name claims… it is NO SHOW!

Let’s start with a photo where I am wearing the No Show Briefs with leggings on…

Friends, my leggings are made out of a light weight supplex! In other words, this fabric will show EVERY line, but it just doesn’t with these panties!! (You can read more about these leggings in my last blogpost.)

Fabric

You need a nylon spandex knit that does not roll for the main fabric. You want light weight and thin fabric. Think: swim knit and other thin athletic knits that do not roll when you stretch them. They also need to have 75% 4-way stretch.

This pretty pink pair is a swim knit from Made Whimsy with a 2.25 galloon lace waistband.

I also made three pairs in the Greenstyle Mist fabric. I love this fabric for these panties, but I cannot, will not model them for anyone on the internet due to how see through the fabric is. You’re welcome. You will just need to trust me that it works really well.

I debated whether to show you modeled photos at all, but I think they are helpful so that you can see the coverage this pattern offers so I took some in the panties I made from swim. (Made Whimsy swim is really opaque, even without lining).

This blue pair is made out of Made Whimsy swim knit and is the midrise cut with a galloon lace waistband.

This pink pair is the low rise cut with a galloon lace waistband as well.

Pattern Details

The No Show Brief is super quick to make, and the pattern includes sizes C to M, which covers hips that measure 34 inches up to 62 inches. The pattern includes a full brief option and a more cheeky brief option for the back, as well as the rise options of low rise, mid rise, high rise, a full tummy rise, and an optional waistband to increase any of the aforementioned rises.

Fit Adjustments

The pattern also includes a fit adjustments chart to show you how to adjust the panties to suit your personal needs and shape. The adjustment I want to highlight to you is the one for more cheek coverage.  Do you ever have the problem of your butt eating your underwear? This is actually a butt shape problem and seems to occur more for heart shaped and round shaped bottoms. The solution is to give more cheek coverage, specifically around the area at the bottom of your butt.

Think about it this way. When fabric is being stretched, it is seeking for the area that is the smallest circumference that doesn’t stretch it as hard. If the edge of your panty is at the fullest part of your bottom, it is going to creep to a smaller area…. Ok, I know TMI, but you need to know how to fix it. You fix it with more coverage right in the area where the liner connects to the bottom by increasing the width. Don’t forget to make the adjustment to the liner piece as well. There is a photo in the pattern to help demonstrate how to adjust your main.

I have had to make this adjustment to most panty patterns for myself, and it is one of the reasons I will never buy store bought underwear again. When I make the adjustment, I only needed to added width to an inch of the panty line (the inch next to the seam where it connects to the bottom piece) and then I need to add width about 1-2 inches on the other side on the bottom piece. I adjusted my blue swim pair by just 1/8 of an inch and they stay out of my bottom. I forgot to adjust the pink pair, and I am definitely regretting it.
