Itch to Stitch Newport Top

What seems like ages ago, I worked in an office that had a business dress code despite the fact that we never were face-to-face with clients. We were on the phone in a call center. However, the company felt that dressing up helped us to act professional in our contact with clients. They felt that our attitude and demeanor could be influenced by what we wear.

Fast forward years later, and I am a stay at home mom that homeschools. I go to the gym. I garden. Change diapers. Clean all day, every day. The days of me in a dress or pant suit and heels seems so long ago. Now, I need clothes that let me move. I really could get away with pajamas or work out clothes most days, but I always seem to remember that dress code from when I worked. I realize my children have to look at me everyday and that I want to look nice for them and appropriate when we are out and about. I also want to wear clothes that make me feel confident and excited to embrace the day. It is amazing how much my attitude as a mom affects the whole house!

The biggest need in my wardrobe are clothes that I feel comfortable in and that also make me feel pretty. Isn’t this every girls dream!?! As we enter into Spring, I have several blog posts planned for some of my favorite tops that are comfortable and stylish. First up, is the Newport Top. I was so excited to get to test this top for Kennis Wong of Itch to Stitch.

The neckline is so elegant, and Kennis did such a great job at making it the perfect width so that it does not show my bra straps. The hi-low hem works well with so many bottom choices. I wore jeans for my photo shoot but have also been wearing my tops with leggings and joggers.

I made the Newport top in several different fabrics during the test. The pattern was so versatile that it worked great in all of them. The burgundy floral fabric shown above is a single brushed poly that can be found at Sly Fox Fabrics. My next version was in a dark purple lightweight sweater knit from Joann’s. It is a blend of polyester and linen and is super soft. The drape of the fabric really looked nice with this pattern.

This test was extra fun because I got to hang out with Aimee of Capture, Cook, and Craft. We had a blast taking photos together. Here are some of my favorite of us in our tops. I smiled so big while looking at these photos. She is an awesome friend.
